Invitations
Have you ever felt the sting of hearing about a party the Monday after? Do you know the dread of standing on the sideline with a few others because neither team captain chose you for their team? No one likes to be left out, and this is why God extends invitations to all people.
Last year I accepted an invitation to move from Austin to St. Louis to consider planting a church. Now that I’m here I want to share something I’ve learned about God’s invitations.
God invites us to know God
When my friend first asked me to come to St. Louis, he assured me of his support. As I thought on his words, I realized he wasn’t only inviting me to pastor in Missouri, he was also inviting me to trust him. I did and have found him to be true.
I believe the main reason God invites us to come along for anything good is to build a relationship with us. Have you ever started a project with a stranger and along the way became friends? Relationships develop as we do life together. It’s no different with God. By accepting invitations to do good, we learn along the way how friendly God is.
God invited a man in the bible named Abram to leave his country, his people and his father’s household for a new life in new land. But here’s the thing, at this point Abram doesn’t know God. Turns out this isn’t just an invitation to a new life, it’s also an invitation to begin a new relationship with God. Abram accepts the offer. In faith he leaves his home. When he does, he not only finds new land, but he also finds God to be true.
Are you feeling an invitation to do something good for yourself or others that requires trusting in a greater power? Usually, these invites have us ask ourselves, “who’s going to help me?” My friend, God will.
At Peacemakers, we encourage you to say “Yes” to God’s invitations and support you along the way because we want you to experience the beauty of knowing God is true.
Peace,
Aaron
